PPF vs Vinyl
Wrap.

One is built to protect, the other to transform. Paint protection film and vinyl wrap can look similar, but they do very different things. Here is how to choose the right one for what you actually want.

The Short Answer

Protect, or
transform?

Paint protection film is a clear, tough layer designed to protect your existing paint from chips and scratches. It is mostly invisible. A vinyl wrap is about looks. It changes the colour or finish of your car completely, from matte black to chrome, while also giving the paint some protection underneath.

So the question is simple. Do you mainly want to protect your paint and keep your colour? Go PPF. Do you want a whole new look that you can change later? Go vinyl wrap. Some people even do both, wrapping the car for style and adding PPF to the most exposed areas.

The Verdict

So which should you choose?

If your goal is protection and keeping your factory colour pristine, paint protection film is the clear winner. If you want to turn heads with a new colour or finish, a vinyl wrap is exactly what you are after.

Answers

Common questions.

Is PPF the same as a vinyl wrap?

No. PPF is a clear protective film that guards your paint. A vinyl wrap is usually coloured and is about changing how your car looks, though it offers some protection too.

Can I wrap my car and add PPF?

Yes. Some owners wrap for the look and add paint protection film to the most exposed areas like the front for extra defence.

Does a vinyl wrap protect my paint?

It offers some protection while it is on, and it shields the paint from light wear and UV. But it is not designed for stone chip protection the way PPF is.

Which is more expensive?

It depends on coverage and the materials. Full PPF is often a premium option, while wrap pricing varies with the finish you choose. Send us your details for a quote.

Do you do both in Durban?

Yes. We fit PPF and install vinyl wraps at our Pinetown, Waterfall studio, and we can advise on the best option for your goals.
